A novel of modern warfare from the author of Sand and Fire and The Hunters..."one of the most exciting new thriller talents in years" (Vince Flynn).
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Parson’s newest assignment is a welcome change of pace. Manas Air Base in Kyrgyzstan is a major stopover for planes in and out of Afghanistan, but his new job as safety officer is a pretty laid-back way to spend the next year. Or so he thought.
A C-27 crashes on the runway, its fuselage packed with electronic gear—and raw opium. Recruiting Sergeant Major Sophia Gold as interpreter, Parson must investigate not only what caused the crash, but who supplied its cargo. And the answers they find lead to a nightmarish revelation.
A new Balkan war is brewing, driven by a man of ruthless ambition. Parson himself flew during the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo, so he knows their horrors firsthand. But neither he nor Gold has seen anything like what’s about to happen now.

From Booklist
Michael Parson and his friend, Sophia Gold, battle a deranged terrorist who looks to correct history and change the results of the Bosnian War. On his second day at his new job at a Kyrgyzstan air base, Parson witnesses a plane crash on the runway. Inside the wreckage is a stash of opium. The drugs belong to arms dealer Viktor Dusic, who intended on using the funds from the drugs to finance a coup. With his core team, he hopes to instigate a terrorist attack that will begin the Bosnian conflict anew. Dusic is a savage who sees himself wronged by the past and happy to use any level of violence to achieve his goals. Young experienced the events of the Balkan wars first hand, and his knowledge translates well to the page. The reader develops a true understanding of the atrocities that occurred in the region and shares Young’s concern, expressed in an afterword, that this level of ethnic violence never happens again. --Jeff Ayers
Review
“An expertly rendered tale of lingering hostilities rooted in the former Yugoslavia.” —Kirkus Reviews
“There are writers, and there are fighters—readers are lucky that…Young is both.” —Alex Berenson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Night Ranger
“A terrific addition to what has become an exemplary series...Young handles all the military thriller logistics like a seasoned pro...but it’s his superior writing that elevates this book above most of the others in this crowded subgenre.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Another winner from Tom Young
By Thomas D. John
This is the third book with a lot of the same characters, and all of them have been very well written. Many of us have some familiarity with the military in some form, so we struggle with books that are unrealistic, or show a lack of knowledge, or a lack of diligence by the author. That is not the case with Tom Young. He has great understanding of our armed services, particularly concerning aviation and aviation services, and that knowledge is well reflected in his writing. Additionally, Young's writing is so descriptive you can feel the chill of the wind, taste the dust, and hear the sounds. Also, Young's books are atypical in that endings are often a bit messy, meaning not everything gets resolved to our satisfaction, if at all. Again, that is a more realistic approach, so I'm good with it. So I'm a fan, and like Tom Young a bunch! If you are a fan of Clancy, the late, great Vince Flynn, Ben Coes, and the rest of the great authors in this genre, you will like Tom Young a lot.

ANOTHER WINNER
By Judy
I keep waiting for Tom Young to write a book that gets just a little bit boring - but, thank God, THE WARRIORS didn't start the trend. Parson and Gold are heroes without a doubt, but they are "everyday" heroes with no special super powers other than guts and brains and heart. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the on-going middle-eastern struggles were high-lighted in this book, but utilized action AND compassion in equal parts. I had no idea some of the warfare technology existed, and the way the history and stories of these lands were described was both technical and poetic. I have just one complaint - I'M READY FOR THE NEXT BOOK.

Plain Vanilla!
By foxtrotoscar
The plot of this book is sort of a middle-of-the roader--not too exciting, but not too dull. It lacks the dramatic action scenes that really capture the reader's attention, except at the very end. Yet, the interim sections are not so drab as to lose the reader's interest. I felt there were too many flashbacks by the main characters to events earlier in their lives. Some of these seemed more exciting than the main plot. Another distraction was the heavy dose of the morality of war. The book is an interesting read, but it lacks the punch and intensity to reach off the page and grab the reader by the throat.
